Hi, I’m Erik with Portable Air, and we want to talk today a little about the best portable air conditioner in our review today. It’s hot and muggy out, you don’t have any A/C. That is a bad day for you. We’ve got a couple of different options that can help provide a little more cooling and a little better comfort in the environment you’re working with. Whether it’s commercial, industrial, new construction, we have a solution for the best portable air conditioner in each area of need.
Indoor Portable Air Conditioners, often called Spot Coolers, from Temp-Cool and Airrex range in anywhere from 1 ton to a 5-ton unit. They are easy to move, have a small footprint and are powered by a standard wall outlet. The good thing about these is you can put them anywhere you need to. They’re an all-in-one package. Heat and humidity are sent through the refrigeration cycle and then disperse as cool dry air through two supply nozzles. With the heat the unit takes in, it will require an area to exhaust it back out of the space. Each unit comes equipped with a “Ceiling Kit” to vent the hot air up into a dropped ceiling or directed out of a window or door. Spot coolers are a great way to get heat out of the space and to make a nice comfortable cooled area.
Package units range in different sizes, anywhere from a 5-ton to 50-ton units with the most common size being our 25-ton units. They are an awesome solution due to their variety of applications. They can go on any job site. These units can be trailer mounted or placed with a forklift or crane. Once the unit is in place, the flexible duct is attached and cool air is distributed wherever it’s needed. They can be powered by an available breaker or by a temporary generator. Whether installed on the ground or the roof air conditioning can be supplied where it is needed.
Let’s say you have an outdoor event in a tent. Maybe you are having a wedding or fundraiser in the summertime. It’s hot and it’s humid and you have 200 guests that are going to be inside that tent. The event is not going to go well without A/C. The best portable air conditioner for this situation is our Vertical Package Units. They connect right into your tent walls to make a nice seamless look from inside. This is another very user-friendly piece of equipment that will ensure everyone at your event will never have to sweat a drop…..at least, if they don’t want to!
When your air conditioner fails it’s never a good thing, but it doesn’t have to be a miserable experience. There is a solution. It doesn’t matter what type of space you need to be cooled off, rest assured, there is a portable air conditioner solution to meet your need!
No sooner does summer arrive in Texas and the news agencies are issuing heat advisories. For most of Portable Air’s customers, the heat is a serious occupational hazard! Avoid excessive risk by setting up cooling stations on your jobsite.
Workers become overheated from two primary sources:
1. The environmental conditions in which they work; and
2. The internal heat generated by physical labor.
The heat index can be used to help determine the risk of heat-related illness for outdoor workers, what actions are needed to protect workers, and when those actions are triggered. Depending on the heat index value, the risk for heat-related illness can range from lower to very high to extreme. As the heat index value goes up, more preventative measures are needed to protect workers.
|Heat Index||Risk Level||Protective Measures|
|Less than 91°F||Lower (Caution)||Basic heat safety and planning|
|91°F to 103°F||Moderate||Implement precautions and heighten awareness|
|103°F to 115°F||High||Additional precautions to protect workers|
|Greater than 115°F||Very High to Extreme||Triggers even more aggressive protective measures|
Heat-related illnesses (heat stroke and heat exhaustion are the most serious) occur when the body is not able to lose enough heat to balance the heat generated by physical work and external heat sources. Helping your body maintain a stable internal temperature is vital in avoiding a heat-related illness. Once the air temperature gets near or above normal body temperature the blood circulated to your skin can’t lose heat. This causes you to sweat, but that’s not enough to cool your body if the humidity won’t allow the sweat to evaporate.
Surprisingly, OSHA does not have a specific standard that covers working in hot environments. Nonetheless, under the OSH Act, employers have a duty to protect workers from recognized serious hazards in the workplace, including heat-related hazards.
Creating cooling stations with either spot coolers or misting fans is a very cost-effective way to help prevent heat-related illnesses. When the body becomes overheated and can’t cool itself, cool air and water are essential to alleviate and prevent the worsening of heat-related symptoms.
Cooling stations are not only preventative measures but they can also provide for a quick response in case there is a heat-related emergency on a work site.
Setting up spot coolers and or misting fans has never been easier! Because our units are on wheels, you can control the direction of breeze and mist to provide relief where you need it. Most of our portable products require a common 120V electric circuit. All our portable misting fans allow you to use a standard garden hose connection for easy hookup. Contact us to learn more!
Keeping your data centers at optimum temperatures is a challenging task. Servers and computers have specific temperature requirements to function efficiently and effectively. Any deviation from such temperatures could cause servers to overheat; resulting in servers crashing or failing. This possible data loss can be detrimental to a company.
There are several advantages to using spot coolers in data centers including:
It's not a matter of will my air conditioning unit fail, but when will it fail. For facility managers and network managers to best prepare for this situation, a company should have several portable air conditioning units or spot coolers readily available. These plug & play units are a great solution to a failed air conditioning system. They are portable and allow for easy manoeuvrability.

Most people know that excessive humidity can make them feel even hotter during the warmer months of the year. It comes as no surprise, then, that it has a major impact on the effectiveness of air conditioning systems. What people don't often realize is that humidity has an effect on heating systems as well. When the humidity in a space is too high or low, achieving optimal indoor comfort is easier said than done. Portable Air offers various models of temporary air conditioning as well as dehumidifiers that keep relative humidity levels in check.
Air conditioners cool spaces by removing heat and moisture from the air. When humidity levels are excessive, they need to work a lot harder. If the equipment doesn't have sufficient cooling capacity, it may be unable to cope with extreme humidity. As a result, the space may never feel truly comfortable. A few common signs of high indoor humidity include:
In theory, an air conditioning system should be able to remove moisture from the air. When the humidity levels spike, however, most systems can't cope. Humidity affects air conditioning negatively because it cancels out the cooling effect. When the humidity is too high, your home/office will feel warmer than it actually is. You'll have to keep your air conditioning system running but won't derive nearly as many benefits from using it. In other words, you'll pay more to cool your home but won't actually cool it that effectively.
People often assume that the larger and more powerful an air conditioner is, the more effectively it can cool a space. That's not necessarily true. If your air conditioner's capacity is much larger than needed, it won't be able to remove moisture as effectively. In turn, the spaces that you are looking to control, humidity levels will remain high. This is because more powerful air conditioners don't need to run as much, so they don't get a chance to remove as much moisture from the air. This is why it's crucial to size the correct unit to meet each need.
The single best way to content with humidity when trying to cool a space is by having a dehumidifier installed. This simple appliance will pull moisture from the air, trapping the condensation, before dispersing the condensation out of the area. Dehumidifiers can be paired with air conditioning systems, which allows you to adjust the temperature and humidity level of the space in one fell swoop. When humidity levels are kept in check inside the space you are controlling during the summer, air conditioners are able to do their jobs much more effectively. You will notice that you feel cooler and more refreshed under these conditions.
If high humidity causes problems while trying to cool a space during the summer, low humidity wreaks a special havoc of its own during the winder. Humidity affects heating, but it does so in the opposite way. Humidity levels drop dramatically during the winter. In turn, relative humidity levels inside the space drop as well. In fact, they can drop so much that they can make space feel a lot cooler than it actually is.
Ideally, the thermostat in a home should be set between 71 and 77 degrees. This is optimal in terms of comfort and cost. However, this range won't produce truly comfortable results if humidity levels fall below 50 percent. When that happens, the apparent temperature in a space, which is how warm or cool a space actually feels, will be too low.

Every bride dreams of being a princess on her wedding day, looking picture perfect, and glowing with joy. But in the South, glowing can turn into sweating, thanks to the heat and humidity. If you’re going to have an outdoor wedding, an air-conditioned wedding tent will be your saving grace.
Imagine that big white tent, complete with a wooden dance floor, lots of lights, a band, tables set with china, and cool air flowing throughout making you and your guests feel comfortable and ready to have a good time. When you rent air-conditioning, you’re investing in a successful event. Here are a few good reasons why you should have an air-conditioned wedding tent:
When your outdoor wedding is in an enclosed space like a tent, barn, or non-air conditioned building, portable air conditioning could be a solution to cool down your guests. Portable air conditioners are the most efficient way to keep your enclosed space at the ideal temperature.Every bride (and mother of the bride) wants her wedding to be the talk of the town and to be remembered forever. According to OSHA, the foremost method of heat related illness prevention is to create a cooler working environment and minimize employees heat exposure.
Air conditioning is of course the preferred option, whether that is in an office setting, break room, or vehicle interiors. Other options include expanding the ventilation from a main portion of the building using air conditioning duct work, or installing cooling fans in more remote work areas such as outdoor construction sites.
For contractors, construction foremen, and facility managers, it is extremely important to know what your options are regarding employee heat exposure. Here are some serious considerations:
Purchasing brand new systems and equipment is not your only option for short term solutions. There are companies that offer commercial quality mobile air conditioners and fan systems for rental, and with a reputable company like Portable Air, units can ideally be delivered within a 2-hour window. This eliminates the worry and concern a project manager might have regarding the down time created by air conditioning system repair, replacement, or installation.
Remote areas of a building can benefit from mobile self-contained a/c systems like Spot Coolers, while outdoor and exposed locations are a perfect fit for rental Misting Fans. These units and many others are stress free, requiring little to no maintenance from on-site staff. Any concerns or issues can be addressed by Portable Air thanks to their 24/7 emergency services.
We know when the human body is exposed to constant levels of high heat, heat stress can become a serious concern. As temperature, humidity, and hours of high heat increase, many may be at risk of experiencing heat stress or heat stroke. This can result in occupational injury due to irritation to the senses, sweat in the eyes, fogging safety glasses, dehydration and light headedness. Illness is also a serious concern. Heat stroke and heat exhaustion can exaggerate and worsen symptoms of colds or other health concerns workers must contend with.
According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, workers that are at the highest risk are outdoor workers, and workers in hot indoor environments such as firefighters, bakery workers, farmers, construction workers, miners, boiler room workers, and factory workers. Anyone who is older than 65 years of age, is overweight, or has any type of heart disease or high blood pressure is also at a much higher risk for heat related illness and injury.
Top 8 Recommendations to Reduce Heat Stress:
Many facilities may not have adequate air conditioning installations or may have remote work sites where air conditioning isn’t an option. For those businesses, it is recommended to partner with a temperature control purchase and rental company. Have you ever gone inside on an extremely hot day and found yourself overwhelmed with gratitude for the cool air provided by your air conditioner? If you’re at home, you may be thankful for your commercial indoor air conditioner, or if you are at the office, it may be an industrial HVAC system that you find yourself thankful for. It wasn’t that long ago that we couldn’t have that gratitude for our air conditioner because air conditioning either had not been invented, or was not yet available for commercial use. Some of us can even remember not having air conditioning in our homes or place of business. If you’ve ever caught yourself wondering about your air conditioning and where it came from, here is a brief history of air conditioning and how it all got started.
